This is a review that you need to read all the way through!
Okay this book was difficult for me to fully get into and I’ve read J.R. Ward’s other books. There is just something off that I can’t put my finger on. Silas is extremely awkward to me as a character. He has something to hide and it’s to the point that it’s really distracting to the rest of the story.
I loved Ivie! She is extremely witty and spunky however at the same time I think she has this certain innocence about her. As for the chemistry between Ivie and Silas, it’s there one minute and gone the next. I didn’t really feel it all the much in the first half. I get this is a novella so the storyline has to be shortened in order for to be an actual but overall it’s definitely not my favorite of J.R. Ward’s.
THAT is the review I would’ve given this novella if i had stopped in the middle of it and gave up. HOWEVER while i stand behind the first half not really connecting with me, BOY has the second half come back and knocked me on my butt! After learning Silas’ secret everything just click’s into place. The second half of the book take’s you on one hell of an emotional roller coaster. I don’t want to give away what the secret is because obviously that a major part of this story, but make sure you have plenty of tissues!!
Over all the author did her intended job with Dearest Ivie and made this particular reader get an emotional punch to the gut. Well worth read if you just stick with it!
